Hazardous Waste Management Inverness

At Inverness Waste we ensure that hazardous waste is properly managed, collected, and transported in a safe and compliant manner. We take compliance very seriously and use good practice, careful management, and compliance to ensure the safety of people and the environment.  Inverness Waste offers complete waste management services, including collecting waste, recycling it and providing a fair price.

We collect waste from bulk tankers, drummed waste, and packed waste. We then sample and inventory your waste when it is collected, ensuring that you comply with waste identification regulations. The appropriate recovery, recycling, or treatment route is then provided. Call us today on 01463 800 485. We aim for zero waste to landfill and achieve our high diversion rate by applying waste minimisation, re-use, and recycling techniques.

What is Hazardous Waste Management?

Management of hazardous wastes involves reducing hazardous substance production, purifying hazardous wastes to reduce toxicity, and using technical controls to minimize or eliminate exposure to these hazardous wastes.  Hazardous wastes are defined as material which has at least one of the following hazardous characteristics:

  • Ignitability –
  • Reactivity
  • Corrosivity
  • Toxicity

Hazardous waste is distinct from other wastes in that it cannot be disposed of in the same manner as other by-products of our daily life. Treatment and solidification techniques may be necessary depending on the physical state of the waste.

Hazardous Waste Disposal Inverness

Some hazardous materials were formerly disposed of in conventional landfills. As a result, large quantities of toxic pollutants leaked into the earth. These pollutants eventually found their way into natural waterways. Countermeasures against groundwater contamination are now required in many landfills to contain the waste, for example, a barrier must be erected along the landfill’s foundation.

Stabilization and solidification of hazardous wastes are necessary before entering landfills. There are also several other procedures to stabilize and dispose of hazardous wastes. A vast majority of combustible materials can be burned as industrial fuel. Batteries such as lead acid can be recycled despite containing potentially hazardous materials.

Hazardous Waste Recycling Inverness

Hazardous trash can be recycled into new products in some cases.  Lead-acid batteries and electronic circuit boards are two examples. Heavy metals in these types of ashes could attach to other contaminants and transform them to easier-to-dispose solids, or they may be used as pavement infill if properly treated. As a result of these treatments, the risk of dangerous compounds is reduced while also allowing the safe product to be recycled.

“Burning for energy recovery” is a type of recycling in which a hazardous waste is burned for its fuel value (either directly or when it is used to produce a fuel).

Another method for treating hazardous materials is starved air incineration. Burning happens, just as it does in traditional incineration, but limiting the amount of oxygen permitted helps to decrease the quantity of toxic byproducts created. In terms of air pollution, starved air incineration is an improvement over traditional incinerators. It is possible to manage the pace of waste combustion and so reduce the air pollutants created in the process with this technique.

Organizations generate a variety of hazardous wastes that must be handled and disposed of properly. At Inverness Waste, we make certain that your waste is properly removed, transported, and disposed of. Hazardous waste is subject to stringent regulations. It must be properly segregated, labelled and packaged for transportation, maintained safely in a secure location, and accurately described on all documentation. But, that’s our area of expertise. So, give us a call today to manage your hazardous waste.
